I am having trouble heating my ceramic tiles evenly I have a UTH and it gets really hot in the middle of the heater spot but the tiles cool real drastically as you move out from the center like the tile right above the heater is sucking up all the heat and it isn't spreading is there something I can do or should I just go back to lights to heat it.

heating tile with uth

A couple things........First, heating tile with UTH has been no problem for me. My tanks do have carpet under the tile but I really don't think that would matter. So :Could maybe your UTH be defective? Have you used it without tile before?
How do you check the temp. If with a probe, the probe will have to have pressure on it to give comparable readings in each of the locations you move it to. Like I set the edge of my humid hide on the probe tip to keep it pressed to the tile. Might try that and see if the temps. read better for you.
take care. / HJ

there was just another post about this, ill tell you what i said in the other and see if it'll help you...

when i first put my tiles in my tank, the same thing was happening... i then realized that the glue on the inside edges of the tank was preventing my tile from sitting evenly on the glass, so i cut them down about a half inch on each side so they sit evenly, now i dont have a problem

hope it helps

heating tile.

Yes, I certainly agree..... if your tile do not fit flat, your heat could be escaping. Its better for a little gap then not to be flat.
Tanks vary on the inside measurements......a so called 12 in. tile varies on being 12", 11 3/4, etc......both items are dependent on the makers way of sizing..
