i just have a thermostat with a probe to tell the temp and everythings been fine lately but now it started to get hot. like i said i put them on stop of things that are more thick so theres better air flow and i also put some paper towel under the repticarpet which can probably help.

i prefer rheostats on single under tank heaters to thermostat. it's basically a light dimmer, hook it up to your heater and turn it down until the temperature is sufficiently cool.

alright ill try to get one soon i got the hot side down to 87 and it seems like its staying at that so as long as i do what im doing now i think itll be fine till i have the cash for a thermostat

I was recently having the same problem and was gonna return the UTH thinking it was maybe faulty. It was getting up to 120 degress! Thanks to this site, I went and bought a rheostat for $20 bucks at my local pet store and so far it's been working great. I have to occasionally mess with the dial but it's better than harming my Leos so i don't mind. Eventually i plan to get a nice porportional Thermostat though.

There is also a full range foot dimmer at lowes can handle up to 500 watts and its about 10 bucks if you need something in the future.
