My son and I bought a Leopard Gecko from the pet store about 2 months ago. I can tell from reading alot of the posts that we made a few mistakes some dictated by what the pet store told us. I started checking the site because Peter became lethargic yesterday and it got us worried. I can now tell that I need to get a UTH vs. bulbs. I also need to rearrange his home a bit to give him more moisture on the cool side. I will get a pic of him up soon and hopefully this lethargy will pass as either being ready to shed or just needing the habitat changes. He is really a great ... um when I get the pic up maybe some of you could guess the sex, he may be a she, I don't know. He is big and chunky you will see with a great tail and nice color.

Welcome Aboard, I am new myself. I will recommend not buying from the petstore in the future. You can find some leopards locally through craigslist or even through this forum. The geckos will be much healthier too. My aft gecko was really over priced compared to the craigslist deal and my third pu from a breeder off this site who lives in the same city!
Good luck, can't wait to see the pics

Hello and welcome! Good for you for making the changes! You will also need a Digital thermometer probe, Zilla and Zoomed make some that work fine for aroudn $10.

Probe

you probably have a thermo that sticks to the glass. That is useless and can be tossed in the garabage. It only measures air temps which isn't important. You wanna put that probe tip on the floor bottom right over the spot your UTH is this way you know how much BELLY heat your leo is getting. Also they probably gave you some kinda sand or walnut shell stuff for the tank floor ditch that and put down a nice layer of papertowel. That lose stuff can cause impaction especially in baby leo's. Make these changes and your little one should be feeling better soon!

BTW on the sexing part...usually pet stores sell babies geckos and it is very difficult to sex them at that age. I don't know how small yours is but Im guessing its a couple of weeks old. But here is a good link that shows you what a male and female look like on their bums.

Well again welcome and read read read!!! This site is full of good info!

Welcome!! My little guy was a pet store gecko. Thanks to this forum, and all the information here, he is growing and healthy. He was only two weeks and 3 grams when I got him. A lot of good information here. :)
