Hello, my name is Mira, I live in Missouri and I am looking to purchase/adopt a crested gecko very soon. I currently have 2 Russian Tortoises and decided upon seeing a friends gecko that it was adorable and I wanted to get one as well. As such I am making sure that I do plenty of research (hence joining a site that has a lot of owners and information on it) so that when I get my gecko I will be prepared as well as I possibly can be :) That's pretty much it for my introduction lol, it's great to meet all of you!

How long have you had them?
The two most popular geckos are crested geckos and leopard geckos, look at both of their requirements and proper care, both are cute!

I've had my tortoises for a few years (without finding their papers I don't remember exactly how long) and as for geckos I'm going to go Crested :) I've already looked into their care, both online and from actual owners. Crested Geckos are so adorable! :D

Yep, there's a ton of studying to do before getting pets. Any ideas on how you're going to put a tank together? And are there any breeders near you that you know of?

Welcome! Nice choice on the crested, you're going to love it! Not that I'm biased or anything ;).

Do your torts play with that ball? I have a Russian too and have tried to get her to play with things, but if it's not food she's not interested. You may like our sister site, www.tortoiseforum.org.

Yes, I know of a breeder that lives about half an hour away who is assisting me in my learning. My cage will be modeled after hers. I always do my homework on a pet before I get it. It isn't fair to the animal if you don't. My torts sometimes play with the ball, yes, but more often than not they purposely get high-centered on it and then just sit there like it's the most entertaining thing in the world. Not sure what their logic is on that lol. I have had my tortoiseforum account for about a year now. That's actually how I learned of this site, because someone on tortoiseforum recommended it lol. Also, I've heard that Leopard Geckos can be more temperamental and require more care....I haven't looked into it much because I didn't plan on getting one, but I was told that caring for a Leopard Gecko is more complex and that they get mean quicker?

Leopard geckos are rarely ever mean, Tokays can be mean though. They have different housing requirements, and have different diets. Every animal has a different temperament. One of my leopard geckos likes to run around free, while another one of mine will let me hold it, and will sleep on me for around 10 mins. They rarely get mad, mine have only hissed at me the day I brought them home, they pretty much only get mad if they're stressed or if they're babies.

Hmm. Learn something new everyday ^-^ I am still partial to the appearance of the crested geckos, but the leopard geckos aren't as different care-wise as I'd previously though.

Thats great to hear, Yeah Leopard geckos are pretty easy to take care of until they get sick. Thats when the job gets really tough and just having a few feels like a ton. Though leopard geckos never really hiss unless you have like tossed them around to piss them off. Otherwise they love being handled once used to it.

I GOT MY GECKOS! :D I got the mack snow that I wanted but then when I was at PetSmart getting my last touches to my tank I seen an albino that was in way to harsh lighting....I may not be an expert on geckos but it's common knowledge that you don't have super harsh day time lights on albinos....I felt bad for him and bought him as well....they're both too young to sex but if they're both males then I'll just separate later lol. My mack snow is named Tartarus and my albino is named Atlantis :)
