I found this website today while looking up Leopard Gecko care, and wanted to stop by and see what it had to offer for a new soon-to-be owner of one. I don't have any yet, but I rescued one when I was 17, and he (I think it was a boy, not sure) was the sweetest pet I ever had.

I have been scouring the interwebs all day to find out what they need, and boy did I not know anything really... But hey, I think everyone has that moment, right? I know my local ******** has them, but I am hesitant to buy one from there, due to any health problems, or possibly eating the substrate they keep them on. I read paper towels or newspaper will work, does anyone else use them?

I have a 10 gallon tank so far, and have heard conflicting advice about lids, with my 5 1/2 year old daughter, I would think one would be safer. If I use paper towels and simple furnishings for the tank, would that work for a solitary gecko? I also was wondering whether an UTH would work best, since I know that LG don't need a special light. I have found several websites that offer advice on their care, and wanted to check with people who raise them to make sure my info is sound.

Feedings, would I be able to get prekilled crickets and whatnot for the LG to eat, or would live food work better? I read on how to gutload them, as well as dusting them before feeding them, any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Welcome to GF! Take a look at Gregg M's care sheet it is a great resource that will get you and your leo started off on the right foot. When you are ready to buy take a look through the classifieds here and our sponsors' web sites, they are full of healthy, high quality geckos.

Good to know about the food question, I had worried about that myself. Thank you, this place is full of info. I will stock up on paper towels, since they seem the easiest to keep clean, and not going to be munched by a curious LG.

I will check out the care sheet, I was checking out the list of articles posted for care and questions pertaining to LG care. The pics I have seen from some of the sites recommended are amazing, they are beautiful, colorful, and look so healthy. I will take a closer look when I am ready to bring one home, I want to make sure I get healthiest, rather then just a "shiny" from a local store.

and if u buy off the forums u may have to pay for shipping it would be around 50 dollars cuz it needs to get there FAST

Overnight shipping for a reptile does cost a pretty penny, I almost bought a Kenyan Sand Boa from VMSHerp.com, and their shipping was about 55.00, plus the price of the snake. The only reason I didn't buy a snake from them was that it was March, and I didn't want the cold temps to stress her out.

Thank you all, I appreciate your input and suggestions.

Thank you, I think I found another gecko that has captured my attention. Crested Geckos, and their little eyelashes made me all melty... Been researching their care as well, anyone have those to add their input on?

:)

Good to know, I found some at my local pet store today, but they are so teeny! Maybe a couple inches long including tail, I want to have one, but I am scared of squishing it with handling. Also, my idea for a habitat is waaaay too huge for such a tiny gecko. Anyone have any suggestions for taking care of the itsy bitsy ones?

Part of me was so overwhelmed by the idea of owning one I considered getting a Leopard Gecko instead, they were much bigger, that and the price difference. The ones they had were looking big and healthy, with fat tails. One looked like it had been brushed with orange paint, almost the color of kraft mac&cheese...

Would a medium KK work for such a small gecko to start in? I want to make sure they don't get too stressed out and can't eat. Not sure where to go from here, so suggestions and whatnot are appreciated.

I am mostly worried that it could become one for me, but I would enjoy it, since reptiles have always been a fascination for me. Just have to make sure I don't do any impulse buys of the rare morphs.
