Hi All,

My name is Sam I am from Bristol, UK.

I have just purchased my first Leopard Gecko she is a beautiful 4 month old Mack Snow.

I have treated her to a large 3ft x 18" x 18" double storey Viv with plenty of extras.

One thing I am looking for is a Lighting controller.

I understand that providing a "day light" (White light) is a good idea
and also using a "night light" (red or blue) is the best way to view my Gecko in the evening.

What I am looking for is an all in on control unit that will allow me to have both white and red LED lights in my Viv
that are controlled on timers automatically. Does such a thing exist?

Many thanks
Sam

Do you use an undertank heater at all? I can't comment on the day/night lights as I don't use them and I am not a fan of using day lights on leopard geckos. They don't like the bright lighting. The only thing I use is an undertank heat pad. At one time I did use a black incandescent bulb (not red!) for heat with slate tiles underneath to provide belly heat. That can work as long as you are careful with the temps. But there is no need IMO to ever use a white light. Timers like you are asking about do exist, but again for leopard geckos it is not desireable. IMO, the tank is also a bit big for a baby leo so young. Do you have something she can grow up in and then put her in there when she is adult?

Hi Yes,

I am using an UTH heated and a Habistat Pulse Prop Thermostat (HabiStat Pulse Prop. Thermostat) My Temps on the "hot side" are right around 30-32C (88F). I Didn't think about the Tank being too big.. ? No one has ever said you have a tank that is too big to me?

I am not so worried about the Day (White Light) but more about what colour lighting to use in the evenings so we can see her.

Don't use the red lights for evening. Use the black/purplish ones for evening (daytime too if you'd like).
I personally do not like the use of white lighting for leo's at any time. They don't like bright lighting and in captivity there is less space to get away from it. Also, you can achieve the temps you need with the heat pad alone probably.

The tank is big for a young baby. You want a tiny one to be able to find food, water, heat etc. easily. For adults it's not such a big deal.
