Ovulation is a time when females geckos become "in heat" as I say LOL! As far as I know there is no way to make them become in heat besides temp drops and most people don't have to do this in order to get them to breed.

Your female may not be receptive to the male period, I've heard it happen so it wouldn't be totally unheard of.

Search Ovulation in the forums and you will find quite a few threads about it ;)

Ovulation is when the female produces egg follicles that will become eggs when they are fertilized. If she isn't ovulating (producing follicles) she will not be receptive to a male. You cannot 'make' a female ovulate. It usually happens naturally in late winter or early spring when breeding season begins.

Marcia I've read about temp dropping does that affect the breeding or ovulating? Does it make for a better outcome when trying to breed them I'm curious for myself :)

Our females tend to ovulate almost all year round if they are fat and healthy. We do have the occasional female that is not receptive, our solution is a quick 2-3 week cooling. We set them aside with nothing but water, of course we watch them carefully to ensure nothing goes wrong. We tried it for the first time about 2 months ago and had very good results. Good luck!

I have never manipulated the temperatures for my females except when a young female under 35 grams begins to ovulate and quits eating... then I may drop the temps to stop the ovulation, but that can be tricky because lower temps may also make it more difficult to get them to eat.

I only have one female that ovulates all the time, but the rest of them start around now, and stop in September.... along with the photocycle. When the days start becoming shorter than the nights (around September equinox) breeding season ends, and after Christmas (winter solstice) when the days become longer than the nights, breeding season begins.

I have found that once one or two start ovulating and the pheromones start filling the air, ALL of them will start ovulating. It's a phenomenon similar to when many females housed together, like in boarding schools and institutions, after a while they will all begin menstruating at the same time.
