just because it's biodegradable doesn't mean it's digestible. Hatchlings on up to adults (40grams plus) should be housed solely on paper towels, newspaper, butcher paper, or tile/slate. The ONLY particulate substrate I provide for mine at that size/age is coco fiber within their moist hides.

Even your apparent lack of experience, I wouldn't even place your gecko onto a particulate substrate once adult. Stick to the paper towels, newspaper, butcher paper, or tile/slate substrate and find your receipt and return the "digestible" shredded aspen. Leopard geckos aren't termites, they aren't going to digest wood cellulose!

Oils are not an issue with aspen like they can be with softwoods like cedar or pine. Removing the substrate will be sufficient.

:wall:Seriously? I mean you found this site, you'd think you would check out the answer to that question pretty easily! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

This is not a nice way to talk to a new person, even if it is a valid point.
You can say the same thing more tactfully, ya know.

I'm honestly getting a little tired of bullying the new kids around here, the indignant smack-down of mistakes. I know we're all jaded about stupid things folks do, but insulting them right out of the gate does not help them learn.
I note this as a cultural change in the forums here compared to 3 years ago.

It needs to stop.

Especially annoying is snarkiness from members who've been on for less than a year. You learned, great.
PLAY NICE WITH THE OTHER KIDS UNTIL THEY LEARN.

If someone is being willfully ignorant, that's different.
So, please, differentiate.

im glad you got rid of it and will be using something more suitable. I bought many things that a store clerk told me to in the beginning and after finding this site I have tossed. It stinks to lose that money but it will be cheaper in the long run without having to shell out money for vet bills.

I was lucky enough to do plenty of research beforehand so I didn't have any of these problems (apart from a bit of a fiasco with reptile carpet) but yah, anything that has particles is a bad idea.

THANK-YOU lillith! I mean, as I said I didn't really run into the typical noob problems but I saw plenty of new owners getting bashed for stupid mistakes when I first joined. Seriously people! If they're asking questions it means they care and want to make sure they're doing the right thing, right? So why get all aggressive with them? I never really understood that, especially with us younger people who have maybe never had any experience with these kind of animals. I guess you could argue that they should have researched beforehand but....that doesn't change the fact that they now own a leo and want help in making sure their new pet has a good quality of life so I don't think there's any need to bash them....just my two cents :p
