Ok, my problem is that my fat tailed male gecko rodney cannot shed good. Right now he is in a 10 gallon tank, paper towels on the bottom, water and calcium dishes, hides, i have a hygrometer and it stayes above 60 at all times, i mist in morning before classes, then after them. He has a heat pad for heat. Well ventilated lid. He always used to shed fine, no problems, but now he cant shed to save his life. Right now, I am soaking him in warm water and zilla shed ease® and it still wont come off. The major problem area is his nose, which was infected earlier. I swear there have to be at least 4 layers of skin there, but i cannot get them off. Everytime i try, after just rubbing it over and over, and "picking at it" he always ends up bleeding, so i get freaked out feel really guilty and stop, but it is still there.

Any advice? Would an over the tank light help, better substrate, anything? Or does anyone know any good places in CT to take them to get his skin looked at? because i am starting to get worried. And he still eats fine, if that matters.

Thanks

Maybe a picture would help? You have to make sure he have humid in his tank all times. because in case he needs it. to prevent it happening but you need to take him to vet.

The AFTs I just got are missing toes left and right so I wonder is it an AFT thing but have you tried uping the humidity or providing a humid hide?

This might be way off but it is really stuck shed or can it by some type of rash?

Yeah, i mean i can get pics up soon, when i soak him tonight. But like his nose was infected over the summer. which might have something to do with it, is a heating pad enough? should i give him a light too? I know they dont need UV or UVB, at least that is what i have read, but would a heat light help? And just soaking him helps a little, once i get the pics you will see what i mean, hopefully

the stuck shed doesnt look too horrible. if it bleeds when you mess with it then leave it alone and make sure you have a warm humid hide available at all times. the heat causes his metabolism to speed up, which helps them get over being sick/injury. if it doesnt go away then go see a vet.

fattys like it humid, and having a warm humid hide gives him a place to feel comfortable. the reason you want it to be a hide and not the whole enclosure is he will thermoregulate himself. give him options (cool, warm, dry, humid) to be safe, but i garuntee if you give a warm dark humid hide he will spend most of his time in it.

whatever photo hosting site you are using sucks, it causes a million popups.
