I have a 6 month leo-gecko. I live in Japan near the ocean.
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif]Do you think I could feed it baby sea roaches they live near the ocean in Japan.

I need to inspect them, to see how tough their shell is. If it`s too tough I could surgically remove the tough shell and legs and attenas and squeeze it`s mouth with tweezers. Possibly feed the belly to my leo gecko. What do you think?

Currently it`s eating small crickets from europe, they are softer I have been told by the store.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with advice. I would greatly appreciate it. I want my gecko to live 50 years.

Here is the link to the wharf roach.

Wild insects can carry parasites or diseases that may harm your gecko or be able to physically harm the gecko by biting. Personally I would not feed my geckos anything caught in the wild. Especially an insect that I was not sure they could digest.

I agree with Lisa; parasites, and resulting illness are the main concern; are feeder insects hard to come by there? Crickets can be a fine staple diet (w/ supplements)...

We have a choice of two types of crickets. European ones (they call them) and a darker one, both small. The european ones are softer and the darker ones are a bit harder. We bought meal worms, however, they are too tough to cut in half. The shell is too hard to digest. When we fed it to Euro crickets (soft ones) than we added a small meal worm. Next day the leo-gecko vomited the meal consisting of 2 euro crickets and a small meal worm. We don`t if he/she vomited because of a new enviroment or the meal worm.

Mealworms are not hard for a leopard gecko to digest. I feed all my geckos full sized mealworms including my hatchlings and have never had any issues at all.

I think at least 80% of people on this forum feed mealworms to their leos.. i feed my geckos mealworms all well.

Christopher -If your animal is vomiting, often it can be from a lack of heat they require for proper digestion. do you have a 90degree hotspot available?

Mealworms make up about 50% of my geckos' diets. They have no issues digesting them and even hatchlings can eat all but the biggest mealworms so they shouldn't require cutting. Like others have siggested, make sure you have a 90 degree hot spot. If she has one and keeps regurgitating food and starts losing weight I would start worrying about parasites and try to get her checked out by a vet.
