Hey guys,
My rack is coming along, though instead of using tubs i have divided a rack into small 'vivs'. the openings would be a little tight with sliding glass. Can anyone offer me any help on how to hinge doors? Obviously they need to be tight fitting enough to retain both leo's and insects. i am thinking acrylic.

The opening is 16" x 9" so any ideas guys? Anyone done similar?

Thanks
Mark

I'm not sure about your question, but if you arent using tubs and using just the empty rack space, how is your heating gonna work? I also think cleaning would be a much more diffucult process.

Heating! Well here in the UK we dont have the heat tape that you americans keep teasing us with lol.. So heat mats are the only way. i have shaved a little off the back 9" of the dividers so i can use a single 48" x 6" heat mat down the back of the vivs. I have one of these running each shelf.

The set up is basicly a 4'x2'x2' viv divided into 6 smaller vivs. 3 on top shelf, 3 on lower.

My leos are pets before anything else so i wanted to be able to see them more than a rack offers. though i also needed the extra space saving of a rack to house a breeding group and have space for the young (hopefully).

Without the dividers in i could have just made a conventional rack. Though for above reasons i decided to go that bit further for these guys.
I do plan on building conventional racks for the young and growing on, and my breeding plans meen i need to hold onto quite a few of my babies so racks will probebly be the way to go in the future unless this systemm works really well for me.

Cleaning isnt really an issue with just the 6 leos but i have sealed the corners with sillicon nice and rounded so they can still be cleaned with a quick wipe.
I am using a paper towel substrate with a piece of slate sat over the heat mat in each viv. Mainly using the slate so the leos dont get under the towel to the mat, but also thought this would get nice and warm for thier bellies.

I just wanted some opinions on the doors before i go and buy some acrylic. Is this the best way to do them? I am thinking 4mm acrylic as 2mm is very flimsy. And hinge them just like a door. Is thier any way i can do this with glass? Has anyone done something similar? Am i going about it the best way?

Thanks for any help
Mark
