I have a male gecko that will not eat, and his hemipenis area seems enlarged and is now bleeding. does anyone know what might cause this? Please help. I've never had this happen before.
If its protruding out from his rear hes prolapsed. You need to make up a sugar water soak for him. make it alittle warm to the touch and put as much sugar as you can in the water until it doesn't dissolve any more. Place him in it so it soaks his belly and parts. Leave him in it for a 1/2 hour and remove him. place a small amout of olive oil or vasaline on it to keep it moist. You can also put some Preparation H on it to help shrink his hemipenes. Repeat the soak every couple of yours. Keep him on paper towel until it retracts. If id doesn't go down in the next couple of days schedule a vet visit to have it looked at. If you leave it it will dry up and become infected or fall off. Good Luck....If you look under prolapses here you will find multiple threads on how to care for it.
it's not protruding out. The whole area is just swollen. It was bleeding for a bit, but stopped almost as soon as it started. I'll try the sugar water, but would appreciate other opinions as well. Thanks for the reply steve.
