Hey all, Im new to the forum here and new to Leos. I got this one off of Craigslist for almost next to nothin, and i dont know what kind of Leo it is. I believe after doing some homework that she is a female (99% sure) but she's very big. Im going to be picking up two more in a couple days, 1 male and 1 female. Thanks for the Help!!!! :D

Not sure if you have to have a certain post count before you can attach pics. I sent you a PM about your wanted add. I can see the pics in your album and you Leo looks like a normal. It may have other genetics but it looks like a normal.

normals are rare? really? :S

i have a bell albino, a patty and a normal - the normal was my least favorite

shes become one of my favorites because ive seen her aggression slow down - she was gravid wen i bought her and i made the mistake of botherin her - she bit me..never liked being held, never liked being touched. never ever has she bit me again..shes been very sweet and very social :) shes my fave

She's super sweet. i reach down to pick her up and she crawls into my hand. She'll climb up onto my shirt and curl up in the crook of my neck. She hung out there for about an hour while i was on the phone and then started to explore around. I dunno where to find any other genetics, but i want to find her a big healthy male to make pretty babies. Her name is Pickles, I want to name the male Dill. lol :main_laugh:

yep. ummm in terms of genetic ...youre not gonna get much when you cross a normal with anything :)

you will get normals, and normal het X

where X is any recessive genes the male may have
UNLESS your normal is het for something - which you really cant know without gene testing - if its a pet store leo its probably het for something or other

anyways - the type of lizard is called a morph - not a "genetics"

heres a guide for morphs:
http://www.geckosetc.com/htm/morphs.htm

and one on genetics:
http://www.geckosetc.com/htm/genetics.htm

enjoy. feel free to msg me.

also through line breeding you can intensify certain traits...look them up :) genetics isnt an easy subject haha

my knowledge of leo genetics is like..a 5hr convo with 2 breeders in gecko chat :D

im not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole. lol. But i'm guessing that if like you said, i breed a normal with anything else, i get normals. That means that the traits in a normal are dominate traits within the species right? If that is the case, is there another type of dominate trait that i can mix in hopes of finding something out of the ordinary? or maybe not out of the ordinary, but something different? :main_huh:

We say nrmals are rare, especially nice ones lik yours, because the leo species has been so overbred and so messed with that over time you really dont see many "normals". what used to me a nice Hi-Yellow or Tang is now being called a "normal". You dont see that cool classic look much anymore, sad really. Anyways, if you want to get offspring that have a different look to them you could breed to something like a Mack Snow. MS are a Co-Dominant morph, meaning if the gecko carries this gene, it will always show in the phenotype (appearance). There are some nice leo genetic calculators out there. One of my favorites is http://www.milliondollargeckos.co.uk/MorphCalculator.aspx you can go on there and mess around to see what you may want to put with your cutie :)
