Hi, i'm new to both, these forums and owning a leopard gecko. I have a 4 month old male leopard gecko names Drako. I've owned him for about 2 weeks. His normal color is white with a little yellow. I've been told hes probably a mac snow aberrant, but since I bought him from ++++++++ i'm unsure of his actual morph. Recently he turned a brownish color, which i've read usually means hes about to shed. After a few days he started turning pale. Yesterday he was all pale except for the tip of his nose. Today however, when I fed him, he was no longer pale or anything. He looked exactly like he did when I bought him from the pet store. I want to know if that's normal.
Also he hasn't been eating normally. Usually he eats 5-7 gut loaded crickets and sometimes a mealworm or 2. But the day before yesterday he only ate 2 crickets, yesterday he ate a cricket and a mealworm. Today he ate 2 crickets again. His poop and urine are fairly normal but slightly smaller then average.
He has also been hiding in his dry habitat. Almost never comes o
ut. Before he would come out and stay out of his hide for a while, (because of my husbands job, i'm normally awake around 3:00am so I get to see him out at night) but he only came out for a moment to drink some water then went back in. Sorry if this has been answered before but I am new to everything and just not sure what to expect or what is normal.

if your gecko turned pale and is now bright and normal, that means that he just shed. since leopard geckos eat their skin when they shed, he probably didnt eat because he had a full belly of skin :)

can i please ask you to fill this out? it will help us determine more about the health of your gecko :) ------>http://geckoforums.net/f130-health-medications/70912.htm

and welcome to the forum! always feel free to ask questions, because we want you to be well educated on how to give your gecko the best life that you can :D

Yea, mine usually never takes longer than a day and I've had mine for 14 months and she is the most skittish after or during a shed, and since you recently got him/her they take some time to trust you and know your not a hungry predator :) and I agree with Dino about eating, he/she sounds fine! (I suggest a cool hid for him/her as well!) ^.^

Once most of the face is dull/pale, it will usually shed that night. :)

^^^Normal

100_1245.jpg

^^^90% ready to shed.

100_1246.jpg

^^^Pic#2 is 4 hours later.

100_1247.jpg

^^^Pic#3 is 1 hour after Pic#2.

It usually happens in a day or so, and you may not even know they went through the shed cycle unless they left a piece uneaten (and you find the piece in their tank/tub). Just make sure to keep the moist hide damp. They need it to shed properly...and then watch for stuck shed on toes, tailtip, etc.
