A gecko keeper asked me for help, because his female gecko is not eating - I told him she's probably ovulating and asked him for a pic.
Here it is:

I still think it's ovulating, you can see a faint ovulation under the dark spot - but I really want to hear your opinion. Also what do you think that dark spot is?

That substrate is not good for a leo. He needs to take that crap out and put her on paper towels. When's the last time she pooped? How is the tank heated? Her stomach looks bloated to me.

Yeah, I'm against sand too, long ago I lost a gecko because of it, so now I always tell everybody that sand can be quiet unhealthy. As far as I know the gecko is pooping well, but she's loosing weight. I'm hoping for a better pic, because it's really difficult to help remotely. Any other opinions?

Its hard to see if she's ovulating from that picture. If she hasn't been with a male, ovulation may put her off her food for a few weeks but shouldn't cause her to lose more than 10% of her body weight. I would suggest removing the sand, giving everything a good scrub down, making sure all temperatures are good and she has the three hides she needs (moist, warm and cool) and monitor her eating and weight closely for a few weeks. If she continues to lose weight or if she's already lost more than 10% of her body weight I would suggest a visit to the vet.

+1 to the doc. My girl ovulated, didn't really lose any weight to speak of, even though she didn't eat for like 3 weeks.. Now she's back to destroying her superworms and roaches. lol
