My male LVPA was at the vet recently for a bone infection, he lost weight bc of this and shed a few times since... So today I finally moved him from his recoop tub back into his cage.....

There is something hanging from his vent and its DRIED UP!!
If its a prolapse this is bad... I can get pics but cannot upload, it looks like it is attached to his left testicle-hemepene whatever... Its not loose

What do I do???? Could this be poo? Its a fleshy light brownish pink color ALL DRY like oatmeal flakes...
If it is a prolapse what can I do at this point? Will it go back in all scabby like that???

Due to his infection, I didnt bother him much as to not stress him out with him being in a different environment, getting needles, having his meds orally.. food switch.. etc. So it may have been there too long already... I think the shedding issue may have tugged on the skin around the vent, leaving something exposed bc when he shed last he had a piece stuck on his underside that I soaked him for..... ugh

It does sound like a hemipene prolapse.. since it's already all dried up, it may need to be amputated. This hasn't happened to me personally but I know from reading about it happening to others that the most important thing is to keep it moist so that it doesn't dry up. You could try keeping him on moist paper towels to see if it helps, maybe put him in a container that is extra moist for awhile.. but I think a vet visit is essential. If it does need to be amputated, not all is lost since they do have two hemipenes and his other one should still be okay. I wish I had more advice for you.. best of luck to you!
