I've been looking into making homemade hides/landscape for my leopard gecko terrariums. I see many people who have used foam/expanding foam/grout/etc, but don't specify what types.

I've not found any proper answers for what materials are gecko friendly so if anyone can help point me in the direction of gecko safe materials that would be great.

I used stiff floral foam (white, not the crushable green), broke it into pieces and glued those pieces into the shape I wanted. I then covered it with two layers of sanded grout, then painted it with 'stone' spray paint for a few layers, letting it outgas between coats, then more layers of water-resistant sealant. I used Krylon products, which are all non-toxic when dry according to the manufacturer's website.

A lot of people use non-sanded grout, or carve thicker pieces of foam into the shape they want, use concrete tint to add to their grout, or use acrylic paints, or mod podge as sealant. A craft store and home depot should yield everything you need :)

There's a lot of how-tos on this forum and online in general, you could try http://www.lizard-landscapes.com/ for more ideas on materials and design.

Hope that helps! There's a lot of info in this forum on materials.
