Ok here it goes i bought a juvi leo for a pet store about a week ago. I let him/her settle in while i was at work all day. when i got home i figured i would try and see if it was hungry well it ate 4-5 crickets and its been like that every night since then which is good cuz its eatting. well i got it a bamboo tunnel which it just loves and lays next to it alot. it hides sometimes but mostly lays out in the open alot and sleeps....ive started about 3 days after with the hand laying on the floor of the tank so it gets use to me. so far ive done that every night for alittle while here and there and its stepped on the side of my hand once and has licked me every other time...i want to hold it but i dont want to scare it...it doesnt hiss at me since the first day i put it in there....whats my next step????

Patience it takes time. You can try very carefully scoop him up. When he is out in the open slowly bring your hands together underneath him. They don't like being grabbed from the top if they are not used to it. I suppose it is like being scooped up by a predator. Don't lift him very high and let him walk off your hands if he chooses. If he darts for cover don't chase him around the tank. And don't grab him by the tail when you try this.

Go slowly and repeat daily you should be able to hold for longer periods of time. If he slowly walks off your hand you can place your other hand in front of him to allow him to walk from hand to hand. Just keep him close to the ground they will jump from time to time.

With all that said. Leo's don't normally hang out and sleep in the open. How many hides do you have and what are your tank temperatures?

He will probably move into one of the hides as he gets used to his new home. It sounds like your temps and set is good so that will make the adjustment easier.

My little guy was really skittish for a few weeks. If he just saw movement in the room he'd take off to hide. He's getting used to being picked up. Now that he's starting to associate me with food he's become a lot tamer. He pokes his head out of his hide every night at 6:30 like clockwork looking for me. When he hears me getting into his tank, he knows he's about to get some crickets and mealworms. It's cute. Just takes time, at least a few weeks.

How about 4 days old?
Take care. HJ

Hahahah! Sooo cute! I didn't realize they will attack like that! My little guy hasn't done that. He just kind of raises himself up and puffs his sides in and out a little.

This is one of the reasons
I like to have the fear of the human giant
removed early.
The shed needs off.
I guess if you are still "gunnie" about
holding it .....
try a shallow, soak pan in the habitat.
Mildly warm and herd it into it
or take the lid off the humid hide and
tip it on end and herd it into it.....
(probably best for this if you have a hide
with moist white paper towels)
some way you want to get the toe
moist and if possible use a moist Q-Tip
to gently rub the toe.
Take care. HJ

The keyword when taming your animal is always PATIENCE. It takes time but the rewards are always great. She'll come around eventually.
