Does anyone know what to feed a Garter Snake? I caught him field herping. I have tried crickets, mealworms, and fish. The fish might have been a litle bit to big for him. I am afraid he is starving. Any other General care info would be very appreciated.!!!!:D

Are you planning on keeping him? Before you do research on them. Also what is the size. Small garters can eat earth worms. If its over 8 inches try a pinkie mouse. You should let it go though...

He is about a foot and a half. He wasn't hibernating, even though it was late November. He started to sleep in the beggining of december.:(

i would try to feed it a fuzzy or a pinky, because I dont think that many or any snakes are insectivores. For really finicky snakes, i hear that even small lizards like anoles are good to help feeding. I would try feeding it live prey, since you caught it from the wild. It wouldn't really attack a frozen/thawwed one.

Also, I wouldn't worry about it starving because most snakes can last a few months without food. I had a corn snake that was just a few months old escape from its cage. I found it 3 months later. it was terribly skinny, but it was still alive.

Also, since you caught it, you should prbably take it to a vet cuz it may have parasites. I think that is standard procedure with wild caught animals.
