That is a prolapse. Take a container large enough for him to stand in and put a little bit of warm water in it so it covers his feet. Mix in sugar until it is a sugary consistency and let him soak in there a few times a day. Also make sure you minimze his cage and keep him on wet paper towels. Preperation H and/or KY jelly can also be applied. It's important to keep it moist and very clean. It might be best to get a vet appointment, as he may be able to get it to go back in quickly. Hope this helps.

What causes that?

It appears to be a prolapse... it could be it's cloaca (rectum), or if it's a male his hemipenis. A prolapsed cloaca is caused from excessive straining, usually when defecating. A prolapsed hemipenis is when organ does not retract back into the pockets after breeding.

Like Val said, soak the gecko in warm sugar-water (thick and syrupy) several times a day, and keep it on moist paper towel. Preparation H can be used liberally, but make sure it is the aloe vera based type.

If it doesn't retract in a couple of days, or if it appears to be turing black or necrotic, take the gecko to the vet ASAP.

Is it out on one side or both? You want it to look more pink and healthy versus the red color it is now. Like Val said, give him sugary/syrupy soaks as often as you can and apply prep h/ky jelly (try to find the plain/generic types). It's an awful sticky messy, but it helps keep the swelling down so maybe he can retract it back in.

We had a male take almost a week to get his back in. If he still hasn't retracted his by then after everything you've tried, I would definitely take him to the vet.

I agree with all of the above. My vet also suggested a little bit of vaseline over the PrepH to keep the moisture in. It can be very bad out come if it dries out.

Has that male been bred?

Hey...thank you all....

our problem is....the vets in neighborhood have no idea about reptiles so we are a little bit afraid. We lost two Chameleon last time because of this reason.
Our Blizzard group is in copulation. I think our male was to greedy.
On Photo it looks more red than it is. We do everything to hold it moist.
Does the sugar water really help? Our vet dispute it.

best regards, Nicole & Guido

Preparation H is a hemorrhoid product, isn´t it?
But this is not available in Germany....(

Sugar water soaks really do help! The water must be thick and syrupy. Do this for 15-20 minutes several times each day. You can also put corn syrup or honey on the hemipenis if you cannot find hemorrhoid medicine.

The way the sugar water works is that it makes the water hypotonic, and have a higher viscosity. This will draw the excess moisture out of the swollen organ.
