Helping Heat the tank better

Well I got a 16 watt uth and I'm not for sure if my thermometer off but is there any way of boosting my heat if I need to and also I have a 40 gallon zoo med UTH and like I said it's 16 watt. I got it today also so if you can give me tips then thank you

Go by the size of the pad, not wattage. It should cover 1/4 to 1/3 of the tank floor. What kind of thermometer do you have?

A zoo med and I do have it covering 1/4 of my tank I think I may have found out to help heat it better while being safe and not spending money

What substrate are you using? It could be too thick to transfer heat efficiently. And if you have an analog thermometer, I recommend getting a digital thermometer or thermostat with probe.
