An update on the little guy. He is now 7 weeks old. He developed pretty bad MBD real quickly a few weeks ago. (this was a petco rescue - just couldn't leave him there to die). I took him to the vet and was given a very poor prognosis. But we got aggressive and he got a shot of vitamin A & D and calcium. (I belive that's what all was in it) I supplement 2 times a day with the stuff orally. Took him back after a week and the improvement was remarkable. They found no parasites so not sure why he wasn't absorbing his nutrients. His right front leg was all buckled from the MBD and broken. The vet put a tiny little piece of tape on his ulna to straighten it out. He looks so cute with his little blue cast. He is handling it well. He was also missing his worms when he struck at them before the vet visit. He now hits every time and is eating at least 10 a night. He's walking better, is finally using the far side of his enclosure for his bathroom, and is back to his fiesty self. He is still very small but has a fat tail. Probably 3-4 inches and less than 10 grams wt. He is a little fighter. The vet that saw him was truly awesome. I was so impressed he could "splint" his tiny little leg between the joints. He was so sweet with the little guy, handled him well, was honest about the prognosis, but thrilled with the progress. Yep I know there is no cheap petco leo but I don't regret saving him. And speaking of having a leo addiction, I took pictures of my leos to our staff holiday party (along with a couple pics of the grandkids).
BTW, he's been getting calcium all along - just not absorbing it. I really am a good gecko mommy. I was pretty shocked that one of my babies could get MBD! (well I guess he's an adoptee, not one of my own hatchlings).
The rest of the clan is thriving - growing up fast, very mellow and sweet natured.
