So, I'm trying to figure out how hets work or can be proven. I've read up about it on different threads here, but how do you figure out the percentages. Example: B.E.E. %66 raptor x Co-dom snow eclipse %100 raptor

I know the possible offspring from this pairing, but where do the percentages come from or what is the formula?

It's a lot of genetics but if you do some research on how to use Punnet Squares and start to understand I think you'll get a hang of it. I'm just now starting to understand

First lets break down the genetics of the breeders.

BEE 66% raptor.... came from a eclipse het raptor X enigma het raptor(mostlikely), hence the 66% het tremper(raptor) het x het makes 66% hets... 2 in 3 offspring carry the gene.

mack eclipse het raptor.. that's a definate het tremper.

in order to prove out the BEE as het tremper(raptor), you need to hatch a tremper animal from that cross. If you get a tremper, then all nonvisual albinos are once again 66% het tremper(raptor) , otherwise they are 50% het tremper(raptor) because only one parent will be a definate het tremper( mack eclipse)

Also, just wanted to add a simple table:

Homozygous X Normal = 100% hets

Heterozygous X Normal = 50% possible hets

Heterozygous X Heterozygous = 66% possible hets. Obviously that only applies to non homozygous animals.

A homozygous animal will always pass on the gene. A het has a 50/50 chance of passing the gene.

thanks for the help! :main_thumbsup:I'm not ready to breed since I'm sort of new to geckos and I want to be very familiar with the species and their genectics before I do breed. At least now I have an idea of how to calculate the percentages. It's disturbing to see people breed and then ask "what did I make ?" :main_no:
