The gecko was "licking everything" because you had taken all it's hides and other stuff out, and probably have not done that before. It was a change, and the gecko was sensing everything out.

You cannot expect her to eat in front of you, as some will not. I would throw a few crickets in there, go away for 15 minutes, and check back. All mine wait for me to leave, then will eat.

Yeah, she was checking out her surroundings...our geckos do that when we've moved something...I would suggest just leaving everything alone and adding the crickets...see if she'll take them then.

Crickets

If you cannot touch the silly crickets then, you may want to get one of those Cricket Keepers (make it a large one).

Then you only have to deal with the possibility of touching one of the crickets when you put them in or several days later when you have to add food.

With a Cricket Keeper there are tubes that you remove and then ...

I take the tubes and dump a number of the crickets into a Shaker Cup. The Shaker cup has calcium/Vitamans in it and I dust my crickets before feeding.

While I am handling the Cricket Keeper Tube, I try to make sure that none of them escape.

I then take the Shaker Cup, with about 5 crickets in it and put it into the frig for 5 or 10 minutes.

I then dump the slow moving Crickets into the cage.

One way or another you will have to touch the silly crickets. Just try to minimize the time that you have too.:main_yes:

For a Leopard Gecko there is no reason to use Tongs.:main_no: (That is what I think any way.)

Good Luck.:main_thumbsup:

she is probally ignoring the cricket cuz you killed it... i dont think any of our geckos will eat something that is not moving other than calcium out of a bowl... may want to try to get around your phobia of touching crickets... and if you dont have one then just use your hands... tubes in any cricket keepers are a good idea for ease of taking the crickets out... they will go in the tube, you in turn pull the tube out and shake where ever you want the crickets to go... *IE a bag or cup of sorts* i would be willing to bet if you stick with live the gecko will eat...

as for licking everything, as already mentioned... its there way of "smelling" its there sense to tell them where things are including them selves....

good luck! :D
