I'm not a senior but I can answer some questions. No they don't need a light. You use a undertank heater thats all they really need. The light is usually a low watt red or blue so you can view your gecko without hurting their eyes. Bright lights actually hurt their eyes. Since they are nocturnal. You can get all the calcium and D3 through suppliments. They don't need a large amount of D3. but they do need some.

I have a day light and a night light. My gecko is fine with it and loves sleeping out in the open. Also I recommend a big shell. I know it sounds strange but he loves curling up in there and sleeping away! That's why there's nothing it appears that theres nothing in the tank!!!

Isn't that the same thing? An under tank heater is just a sticky head pad that attaches to the bottom of the tank. You NEED one if you don't have one. They need ~90f to properly digest food.

The exo terra heat mat is the same thing. Your fine. But you just need to get ahold of some powder that contains d3. Some people here have different views on it. Some use it every feeding and some use it every third feeding. Just to be safe I'd go with every third feeding. No one here has argued on the proper levels of D3 rather they all go for the argument of "does the gecko need d3".

William they don't take heat from the air but rather they take surface area heat. So the lights as nice as that is really aren't as good as the undertank heater. Also they don't need the day lights because they do have sensitive eyes. I'd grab a undertank heat mat over the lights. And keep the lights just for viewing. Use a blue or red one and its good to go.

But everyone has their opinion on whats right and wrong. As I've said I'm no pro with the leo's.
