Hi am new to the forum and new to the world of reptiles. I have always found leopard geckos fascinating, so after some extensive research I invested in a tremper albino his name is hamlet and he is about 2-3 months old
i did get him from the pet store just because when i saw him i could not say no!!! I will post a picture of him soon, and i do have some questions.
1. how can you tame a leopard gecko he is very very skittish and I know there are supposed to me very docile?
2. how can I teach him to eat out of a bowl- i had showed him that there were mealworms in the small cup but he did not touch any of them did not even look the only thing that really happened was meal forms pupating :(
If you can help please do and thank you so much….:p

Leopard geckos usually calm down some over time. Just handle him a little at a time when he gets a little larger. It takes leopard geckos a little while to get use to their new home and start feeding. Do you know what the pet store fed it? I find it best when I first get new leopard geckos in to keep them in a small cage. I find they start feeding quicker. Some take a while to figure out the whole dish full of mealworms.

Congrats on getting a leopard gecko!

I'd make sure the bowl has low enough sides so that he can peer over. Leos crawl around close to the ground and may ignore the wriggling worms if they're out of sight. Of course, they also move around mostly at night in the dark so make sure you count the meal worms in the dish as he might be eating them overnight.

Also would suggest adding a small dish (maybe a bottle cap with any rough plastic sanded off) full of PURE calcium in his tank as well. Make sure that it has nothing else (vitamins, D3, etc).

Thank you. For replying I use a small ceramic bowl for hamsters and I put it at an angle so he can see them. And I have bottle cap full of multivitamin because my pet store does not sell calcium without d3, and I dont know where to find any the pet store only fed crickets but he really like his meal worms he eats like 7 when I feed him by hand.

I agree. Find out what the pet store feed him.

My son's leo came from a pet store as well. When I first got her I made the mistake of not listening to the guy there when it came to the diet and went against what he said. She had been on crickets, but I got meal worms for her instead. When my husband put them in the dish she wouldn't touch them at all. In the end I wound up going to another pet store and getting some crickets there. She had no trouble eating those up. Oh, and we eventually reintroduced her to the mealworms and she eats those now too.

As far as taming goes we let her settle in for about a week before attempting to touch her. I don't remember exactly what steps we took, but my son held her for little bits every day after that. She not skittish at all anymore and even comes out of her hide when she sees us. :)

PS Welcome to the forum!
