Hides with cage problem

I purchased a home made cage... everything is simply amazing.... the only issue is the hides. there not deep enough.. I can imagine baby geckos being perfecly fine.. but when they get older it may be impossible for them to fully enter.

The cage is gonna house 1 gecko.

I need possible solutions to address this. the cage is made with Styrofoam and painted over.. so I can possibly drill into it to make it more deeper. I just dont want to wreck the cage cause it was extremely pricey.

My main question is what are some solutions to this issue. I was thinking maybe buying a hide and putting it in the far left.

the last pic of my fingers was the best way for me to measure how deep it was.. which is pretty much my middle finger deep.

Thanks for everyone time

Leopard geckos really enjoy tight dark spaces. as long as theirs enough floor area in the hide I would wait and see how big he gets before modifying it as long as he won't get stuck. You could cut the inside deeper but it would take some expertise in painting and sealing to make it safe for him again.
