So, the put the gecko in a container thing didn't seem to work for her, heven with a cloth hiding her view she didn't want to eat, but she will in the tank. Of course the first thing the little roaches do is run and hide. I have paper towels down so of course they try to crawl under it. I found 10 of them the last time I cleaned the cage, it was maybe a 3rd of what I put in there, but I had only a few days worth.

Have you tried offering larger roaches with tongs? I find that works better than just letting the roaches run free. The other idea is to put them in a dish that they can't get out of.

She's pretty young, so she does need the smaller ones. I don't think right now she'd eat from toungs, though I could buy some and try. She is a pretty cautious/nervous little girl. Hopefully she'll calm down as she gets older. I put the roaches in a container to transport them from the bin to her cage, so I could just put that in her cage. Don't know why it didn't even occur to me to do that!

It's sometimes the simplest things that evade us :main_yes: I thought this was a non-climbing species of roach so shouldn't a small tupperware dish with like 3 inch sides keep them in but still let the leo eat with out feeliing spooked by the carton?

Some roaches, like the lateralis, will climb on top of each other to get out of a container. They just build up in the corner & jump out. I've tried different sized containers, but since I only have 10gal tanks, there isn't much room to put the containers in there.

Tweezer feeding works, but its time consuming, depending on how many geckos you have.

The main problem I've had with the container feedings is that the leo either 1) doesn't figure out that he needs to climb into the bowl or 2) gets in the bowl but isn't fast enough to catch the roaches as they climb up him and out of the bowl.

I use tongs and hand feed also if I feed crickets I pull everything out of the cage all the hides, bowls, etc. and then put in a few crickets wait 20min if any are left I catch them with my tongs and back in the cricket container then back in my garage those damn things stink!!!! :main_yes::main_yes:

I got a couple of mealworm dishes from my Secret Santa so I am going to try those. The sides are bowed out, so there is a lip to help keep the bugs in. Will see how they work on the roaches. Probably a good thing it's a small gecko eating babies, the big roaches would laugh at the effort. The bowls are small since they are made for mealworms. But, I figure I might as well give it a try.
