Hissing and Snapping

Ive heard of baby leo's thinking their all that and a bag of chips, and recently we got a baby (morph pending) on sale form petco. Because the thermostat was giving us problems, I go in and check the temp with a temp gun every once in a while to be 100% sure of the temp. This time i go in, lift the rock on the hot side, and he hisses and jumps at my finger like hes going to take a nip out of it! Do they normally do this or was s/he just extra peeved?

i have about 3 hatchlings that hiss and growl when i come in the room. they are crazy. i have been bitten by them several times, and they even attack me when i try to change their water, or stick my hand in the cage.

Well usually he cant see me when i enter the room cause hes almost always in a hide but maybe I startled him when i stuck my hand in to make 100% sure of the temp.

yes, they do get very startled. i try to move very slowly, but to some that just doesnt work.
