Hey guys,

I've been hanging around the forum "silently" for a couple of months now, and I've really been enjoying all of the great info that gets posted here! Now I have a question to add to the pile. I am an Animal Science major in college, and I'm writing an Honors Animal Breeding paper on leopard gecko genetics. I was trying to do some background research and thought I'd tap into ya'll's database.
What is the "history" of color morphs? What I mean is, in what order were different morphs discovered? I can't really find the info anywhere, and I need it. Any articles I should check out, or can anyone here just tell me?
Thank you very much!
:)

You can find some helpful information that you are seeking in Ron Trempers' book 'The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos' on page 155 'An Overview Of Leopard Gecko Morphs'. On page 156 it gives a generalized (a very generalized) chronology on morphs.

High-Yellow ~ ca. 1972
Jungle Phase ~ 1991
Stripe Phase ~ 1991
Murphy Patternless ~ 1991
Blizzard ~ 1995
Tangerine ~ 1996
Tremper Albino ~ 1996
Reverse Stripe ~ 1997
Rainwater (Las Vegas) Albino ~ 1998
Bell Albino 1999
Giant ~ 2000
Carrot-tail ~ 2000
Carrot-head ~ 2002
Super Snow ~ 2004
Red-eyed (RAPTOR) Albino ~ 2004
Black-eyed (Eclipse) Designer ~ 2004
Emerald ~ 2004

There are some other morphs missing on this list that should be there, but like I said it is generalized, but a very good start just the same. Also, I am assuming that the dates are when they were released to the public and not when they were first discovered or created? Shame too. I would love to know the details of when they were first discovered or created as well as when they were first released to the public. Also, a more complete list would be nice too.

Hope this helps!:)

Thanks for the info David! I have Tremper's book, but I wasn't sure if there was more background leaking around somewhere outside of it. I really wish that there was a more comprehensive list too, with more history behind HOW people found these morphs. For example, were albinos found in the wild first, or did people breed them selectively from recessive carriers? Who knows...

Thanks for the welcome too, Marcia! I'm the one who's been bugging you via email about your tang jungles and stripes. :main_yes: , and you're the one who told me about this forum. THANKS!! :main_thumbsup:
