Good day, everyone.

Does anyone else have a leo that seems a bit jump-happy? My male usually comes out to see what I'm up to when I do spot cleaning or minor maintenance and will sometimes approach my hand and climb on it. Last month, I saw him on the opposite end of the tank from where I was cleaning, so I didn't pay attention to what he was doing and then, completely unexpectedly, he climbed onto a rock and jumped onto my wrist while I wasn't looking. It scared the heck out of me and I dropped my tweezers and jumped back. Everyone was fine, but I was a bit shaken up. :main_laugh:

Since then, he's jumped on me one other time, but I was expecting it that time. Last night he climbed the rock again, and gave a pretty decent leap to the corner of the tank, and cleared about 2 inches vertically and 3-4 inches horizontally. I removed the lid to do some spot cleaning and before I got to any of it, I watched him leap two more times and the second time, his nose was about 1/3 of an inch above the top rim of the tank! I tried getting a video of him jumping, but he wasn't cooperating and just sat there.

Should I be concerned? He looks plump and healthy, the tank is kept fairly clean (with regular maintenance, of course), and his cagemates are all doing well also. I'm just hoping that he's not stressed and wants to get out, that he's just curious and wants to do some exploring or something.

I don't think so. We have a few that are jump happy. (lol) We have one that is constantly jumping from one body part to the other the entire time you hold him. :) Our babies are all prone to randomly jump every now and then, clearing some massive air in the meantime. Maybe he's just REALLY friggin' happy. (lol)

Btw. the title for this post made me squirt milk out my nose. Totally awesome. (lol)

Ah, thank you! I was beginning to worry because he seems fine, but then as soon as he sees some way to get out, BAM! He takes it! I've seen my babies jump down from their rocks, but up until this guy, I've never seen an adult jump upwards.

I'm glad someone liked the title. :)

Yeah. Our jumpiest one is well over a year old now. I think that he's a little psychotic though, so that would explain his yearn for wings. lol. He's also somehow managed to escape from his enclosure multiple times as well, so he's on max lockdown all the time. (lol)

And I really don't see how anyone can NOt like that title. It's priceless. (lol)

I used to keep fake vines in Toon's tank but she kept trying to climb them so I moved them up out of her reach--or so I thought. I caught her leaping up to them. I was shocked, she jumped probably at least 4 inches straight up. Crazy.

Very cool, I'm so glad it's nothing I have to worry about. He had me concerned, but at the same time it was cute and amusing. Thanks for sharing your stories! :main_thumbsup:
