Home made vivarium help

I am looking to make book shelf vivariums. I am wondering if it is safe to place the under tank heater on the wood?

Also, I was wondering if someone can give me ideas and show me what they used as doors to their homemade vivariums. I am looking for something simple enough to do. I was thinking of plexi glass, but I may have to use oak and making grooves into the wood without a tool is going to prove a hard thing to do.

Any help is appreciated.

most UTH come with little rubber feet that you can put on them so they stand up off wood. i have heard that people also use a thick layer of aluminum foil too.

That is a good idea, I never thought of the aluminum foil.
