Home Made Incubator

Here is a bator I just made a few weeks ago. It has yet to be tested in action but I hope to have some eggs cooking by the end of the year.:grin2:

The starting point...a Tough Guy 96 quart cooler I bought at Canadian Tire for $20.

Wooden dowels are used as legs on a piece of yellow plexi-glass type sheet. I got the sheet for free at a garage sale and the wooden dowels came from an old broom that wore out.

The 4" flexwatt is taped down to size it up and get it ready for the foil tape covering. I used some scraps I had laying around from my Rack project.

Ready for wiring...

The wiring is all kept under the yellow heat pad buy drilling holes through the contact points in the flexwatt and attaching the wires to small bolts placed in the holes. I used small lock washers on the top to make sure I had a good electrical contact on the top side.

The main electrical wire and probe wire (not shown) is run out the back of the cooler.

High temperature silicon is used on the heads of the bolts.

The metal rack is added and I'm ready for eggs...

I finished the bator by siliconing up the whole in the back where the main wire and temperature probe wire enter the cooler. The bator will be controlled with a Herpstat and should hold a ton of eggs...if I ever get any!

I may still add a window for viewing and a fan if the temps vary within the cooler.
