I have a 3 year old female thats around 55 Grams and a almost 2 year old male thats 34 grams. I'd like to house them together for breeding, space, company, etc..

any thoughts ? I don't want anyone to get hurt but I've been sitting on the male until he would grow but he's almost two and I don't think he's going to get much larger..

The female is proven and ready to rock and roll..

I have cresties that are like this without issue. One mail is a stud; but half the size of all the females..

thanks ahead of time..

I'd really hold off until that male catches up. First year I bred auriculatus, all my females chased/bullied the males and they were of comparable size (45+grams). My females have a nasty (continued) habit of beating up on my males, until they decide to let them breed. If you decide to breed them anyway, I would proceed very carefully, and plan to watch the pair for at least an evening (few hours or more) to ensure there are no issues. Would this be your first auriculatus introduction or no? Usually I introduce the male into the female's cage (I keep all my geckos to their own cages), but I would do just the opposite in this case--so the female does not have territory established already which would increase the strain on their introduction. Do so just after dusk and mist right before and after the intoduction. Some potential mates will let you know right off whether they'll get along, others decide in a few hours they hate each other. I've never had a Rhacodactylus drop its tail, but understand that your male might drop his, and worse, the female will likely consume it (i.e. she may have helped him in dropping the tail). To some, how rough they breed is a bit startling. Anymore questions? Just ask...

You could always give it a try and monitor them very carefully. The problem is, if its size as in how big the animal is, the female could beat the crap out of that poor guy. But if its just weight, it shouldnt be as bad.

Thanks guys.. I got the same advice from a few friends as well.. and it's a definite no go until I can fatten him up a bit.. he's like a dwarf next to her.. she's large and in charge..

We've been giving him crickets and mealworms as a supplement to his normal GGD and CGD to pack some weight on.. we'll wait and see what happens..

thanks again :)
