Housing Males/Females Separate But Close?

Advice needed concerning housing males separately, but in close proximity as well as a male and female separately, but closely.

^^^Might be confusing, so here's my situation...We've got a juvenile male in a 20L and are thinking of getting a 30 gal or 40 gal tank, dividing it in half (with plexiglass), and getting another gecko.

I've read on this forum that males may get agitated and/or stressed by just being close to another male or female, i.e. housing them too closely in the rack. Anyway, any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

What i did, is, i had two leopards and came to a point where i couldnt keep them together. So what I dod was(i have a 20gal) i took a sheet of glass out of a picture frame duct taped the edges becuase its non treated glass and is razor sharp. i put the glass in the middle of the tank so they each had an equal portion of the tank but could still see the othe gecko and it looked as if they still had all the original room they had. That was successful. neither the male nor female tried to interact nagativley towards eachother but watched eachother quite a bit. so go ahead and try that

Well, I had my first pair like that. Unfortunately, I had to move my female to the rack just this weekend. Now I have two males in the divided 20G.

My female began ovulating and I realized the male was beginning to get VERY agitated. He started digging (alot) wandering the cage, trying to climb the walls and stopped eating. This happened over a 3-week period. Since I switched them out, he's back to his happy-go-lucky self & eating regularly! :)

However, the female isn't thrilled about her new home.... :(

I have males that live side by side to each other (in open top tanks) with no problem at all. But I would say its better to keep the females further away. I had them in the same room before, and during breeding season, eventhough I do not breed my geckos, some of my males ate a lot less than normal; as they can smell the presence of the females and breeding is the only thing in their mind. This year I relocate all the females into another room, and they all seem to eat better.
