Housing other reptiles?

Just out of curiosity, are there any other common lizards out there that would live well with leopard geckos?

I have a pair of female leopards in a 40 gallon breeder with tons of room. I have considered putting another female or 2 in there, but I really don't want to cramp thier living space. Would there be any other compatible geckos that could take up the space? Like something that doesn't need the floor space, put in some plants and shelves etc, like crested geckos? Or something less nocturnal, like anoles for example?

Just curious, it's not worth stressing my geckos over now but if there was something compatable like that I would love to make my tank more robust, so to speak.

ive read that you can house waxy monkey tree frogs with leopard geckos. Im not sure if its true but they both need hot temperatures and not too much humidity.

The short answer is no.

The only animal that I would suggest on adding to a leopard gecko tank is another leo.

With proper quarantining, would a AFT work? I know it's probably not what Ryan was looking for but they are pretty similar. Obviously a female AFT.

I wouldn't mind doing an AFT, I just don't want to introduce something thats going to compete for hides or eat the same thing at the same time. Otherwise I would just get another leopard, at least species-wise I know it would work then. I was just hoping to use up some of the vertical space for something different.

AFT needs a lot higher Humidity then leopard geckos. I would just leave Leopard geckos in with leopard geckos.

I have AFT's and Leo's. Honestly I don't think they need that much more humidity than Leo's. Mine are not housed together but they are in the same room, so they get the same ambient humidity as the leo's. My AFT's are also housed on paper towel and get misted once a day. They are 100% healthy no RI, ever. They do require more humidity but I don't think it's that much more than leo's.

Well it would depend on what the humidity is where Ryan lives. My humidity is around the 40-50% range. I am not sure what it is in Maine or Hawaii. From my reading AFT's need about a 70% humidity.

Right about now Maine and Maryland (I don't live in Hawaii, "Stitch" does :D ) are in winter mode and it can get pretty dry around here. Like I said, AFT's do require higher humidity. But I don't think it's enought to where they couldn't live in the same enclosure together like a 40 gallon.

I think there could be a level at which both species could thrive.

If you had the humidity high enough for an AFT, would it be bad for the leo?

Hopefully not it gets real humid up here when it hits summer, even though its really dry now.

Just curious as to what would happen if you did combine the two. Both need belly heat? Would they compete for hides and fight? Are they both nocturnal?

Thats why I was thinking more alone the lines of an anole or something that spent most of it's time off the ground in leaves, etc. If it's just going to occupy the same spaces as the leo, I can't see it working out to well.

How many leos do you think I could fit? It's something like at least 36x24x18 maybe a bit taller if anything.

I personally will never house more then one gecko to a cage. I have my female AFT in a 40 gallon tank, by herself. I've tried housing 3 females in the 40, but they still fought even with 7 hides.

The way you would care for the two types of geckos is almost identical. But AFT's need higher humidity and like slightly warmer temps. A lot of people have noted that AFT's like crix more then worms.

Your safest bet, if you were to add another gecko would be to add another leo.

Leopard Geckos should not be housed with any other specie of reptile or amphibian. A 40-gal tank will easily house up to 4-5 leopard geckos... if they all got along with each other.

In a book i have on leopard geckos, co written by Ron Tremper, it says that they have successfully housed collared lizards, AFT geckos, and small girdled tailed lizards together with leopard geckos. Thats what the book says, i however would not try it and just keep leos with leos.

Thats actually what sparked the idea:main_yes: But I don't think I have that much space for most of them other than maybe an AFT or 2, but I would just rather get another leo or 2.

What addiction?:D
