My brother and I are going to be breeding leos and we have the all the stuff for the leos, but no leos yet (so excited!!:wideeyed:), and are gonna be starting off with only a pair and then add slowly, but I have not purchased a incubator yet and we are on a tight budget and wanted to know if the hova bator is okay for small time breeders?
and maybe tell me how it works?
I know all about perlite and putting the eggs in containers ect... but what do I do once the eggs are in the container with the perlite?
thanx,
Ella

Hova-bators are bird incubators meaning they fluctuate alot!!! You should always use a Digital Thermostat of some sort to keep the temps stable... Also if you`ve never kept Leos before, why are you going to start breeding them? Also if you have never kept them before start with one and slowly add or else you will find yourself easily overwhelmed with geckos...just my 2 cents

i agree with you Nigel, in the sence that you can get overwhelmed easily with a lot, and expensive. breeding them and taking care of them is actually another job.

Just because I do not have any geckos right now doesn't mean I've never had any...I had four a while back, I just never had any color morphs, and never tried breeding.
I"ve had tons of reptiles besides that and I'm used to taking care of alot of animals especially reptiles.
Thanks for the concern.
I will be using a digital thermometer, but was wondering about puting water in it. How? and should I?

hova bators are fine, the reason they ofetn fluctuate a lot is because some people want to open and close them way too much to look at their eggs or are putting in new clutches often (which the hova bator will not hold much)

as mentioned one way to help this is with a water bottle, it takes longer for water temps to go up and down than air so the temps stay more stable, also a GOOD thermostat (The wafer the hovabator oly works if your room temps never change), you can also make it much deeper for free which really really helps with temps and size restrictions.
