How dark to be considered Midnight?

I just picked up this little guy a few days ago and am wondering if he is dark enough to be considered a midnight.

Unfortunately, I have no gentic background on this one. He was aquired from a larger chainstore petshop whom said he was supplied by Rainbow Exotics. I am just hoping he was a lucky find.

First why a midnight has it come from parents that are said to be midnight ? or are you asuming coz it's a little dark ?.Blizzards in genral can go from light to dark i have a line bred banana blizzard she goes from bright yellow to black firly often. It's nothing to do with her being cold i know that as her tub is the same temp as the other blizzards i have there always light but she the only one that goes darker. She mainly does this at breeding time when she spens a couple nights with a male. She goes dark then i put her back in her tub couple later shes mellow yellow again so i'm thinking more to do with mood/when she'd rather be alone ?.I think there's still alot of so&so about midnight's still ? on wheather it's genetic, incubator temp etc'etc.Anyway the rule i've herd on the grape vine about midnights are midnight blizzard are dark to near black they have the inerbility to turn a lighter color (ie-typical blizzard coloring). The most common rumor on how the midnight was created is they are line bred so dark blizzard to dark blizzard keep the dark offsping back breed to parents and the other offsping then out breed then inbreed out then in then in out etc'etc'etc but i'm not sure or not wheather there is any fact to this or not.

So as to yours it's a shadow grey but the a typical blizzard color but i've head that midnight get darker as they grow ?.All i can say is leave judgment till it's maybe a yearing and if it goes dark grey to blackish and it never terns light at any point between the age of sub'adult to adultish only at that point would go down the midnight road.

Interesting, prior to this I had only had the Blazzings in my collection. This little guy has never shown me the typical blizzard color but as you say it is probably too soon to tell. I am aware that both the Blizzards and Murphy's Patternless are considered mood geckos and can lighten and darken at will. Either way he seems to be adjusting well.

Another shot of the back..

I thought I would include another shot showing his back and the color he is most of the time.

In my experience all of my blizzards have been extremly dark when young but have all changed to "normal" blizzard-pale as they grow older.

Heat has a lot to do with theit colouring but also it seems like their "mood-swings" are visible through their colouring...

Really, All the blizzards I have had, If they were dark as juvies they stayed dark. And If they were lighter colors they stayed lighter. I think you could call that a midnight, Ive been told it is a line bred trait, so he should in theory have two dark parents.

In my opinion, a "Midnight Blizzard" is nothing more than a marketing ploy in an effort to get more money for a blizzard that is simply dark. I have seen my blizzards go from white to gray to dark charcoal and back to white again depending on their mood, temprature, and substrate color.

Same hear i wouldn't pay more than around typical blizzard price for a blizzard that's marked as a midnight simply as there is no really fact behide it genetics'etc. There has been a so called partial eclise midnight on the classifieds that said to come from two dark midnight parents but the it's really light i'd class it as a partial eclipse line bred banana blizzard ?? so we know nothing about the genetics or if there's any genetic to know about ?.I feel that midnight blizzard shouldn't be marked at a higher prices till it is fully proven.

my midnight born dark and she is dark right now too (2 years).
i think is not correct sell formore money a geckos if you don't be sure about his genetic..expecially if the most blizzard when born are dark and with the maturity or the temperature turn light...

Thank you everyone for your comments I have come to the conclusion that he is a very dark juvenile blizzard. It will be interesting to see how he develops and I am looking forward to that. He was not marketed to me as anything other than a normal so that is not my issue. I was just looking for any insight into how dark a blizzard needs to be to be called a Midnight. Does anyone have any pictures?

I have too that Mid Blizz are line bred, if that's the case then I could see them costing more then a regular blizz. But I agree that it has not been proven and therefore shouldn't be marketed that way. Crested Gecko sells their Mid Blizz for $200+, that's more then a BB! I do like the "mid Blizz" but I'm not spending $200+ on something that hasn't been proven.

Harmurray, from your pics and what we know of "Mid Blizz" if he stays that color I would consider him to be "Mid Blizz".

i have two midnight blizzards. Both are not line bred but one is as dark as I've ever seen any Leo and has bluish eyes. The other is extremely dark but can lighten depending on mood.

I agree the term midnight may be a marketing ploy but I like the contrast between my very dark ones and my blazzings. I charge no different for either. I may charge more than a basic blizzard but not much.
