I don't know. Personally I love reptiles because I enjoy creating the perfect environment for them and seeing them thrive. I respect that they like their privacy, that they are "loners", and I understand their desire for security and privacy. Kind of describes me. :)

I also love to watch them. For example my box turtle is set up in a very naturalistic enclosure. I could just watch her for hours. It's like watching nature.

I would normally say to people; they are hardier than warm-blooded pets, are cheaper in terms of care and maintenance (well at least cheap in my country lol), lets me tap into my inner wild side and well, that i'm just...weird lol

Hard for us to answer for you, we all have different reasons. For me it is the closest thing to observing a dinosaur . And in some sick way I even love the Adrenaline rush of handling the may bit you at anytime ones.

Not to sound too much like a psychologist or high school English teacher (ha!), but a good way to explain what personally you draws you to them is just free associate. Look at your pets or think about them for 5-10 minutes, and write down what comes to mind. Then turn those into complete thoughts and sentences.. :)

I will give you a quick example on a Leopard Geckos:

Make your observations:

-Colorful
-Look like they're smiling
-tame and like to be handled
-low maintenance
-fun to watch hunt

Then turn the list into a statement:

"I really like having LGs as pets because they are low maintenance, tame and most readily accept handling. Plus, they often look like they're smiling, come in a variety of beautiful colors, and are a lot of fun to watch hunt!"

None of us can tell you why you like reptiles but hopefully this method may make it easier for you to identify and express your own personal reasons. :)

I've always found it greatly intriguing how much humans like to feed things. I've had reptiles all my life, and I never stop feeling happy satisfaction when I feed them and see them eat. It's a really funny thing biologically, if you think about it.

I think all in all, it's pretty hard to describe exactly why you love something. I saw this thread a few days ago and have been asking myself, "Why do I love leopard geckos so much?" and I haven't been able to answer myself. I suppose it's partly because reptiles are just fascinating, and these particular ones are so colorful and easy to keep. Reptiles have been around for so long, and represent some of the earliest complex lifeforms. They're so different from us biologically, and so interesting to watch and learn about. I also love the diverse pool of genes we have created for them. It's simply fascinating to dabble in. That being said, I don't think I could ever fully explain why caring for these little lizards brings me so much fulfillment, and why it motivated me to put hundreds of dollars into it.
