hi,

may i know how do you guys feed your gecko with dubia?
- do you hand feed it one by one?
- just put few in the feeder dish and leave it inside the cage?
or any other way?

thanks

I dust dubia with Cal. D3 and place them and my gecko in a separate container. Then I leave alone for an hour or so.

I drop one in there by hand, if they eat it, cool. If not, I take it out. Sometimes I'll leave one in the mealworm dish.

I don't leave them running in the tank because they like to get into impossible places to hide, and your gecko's not ever going to be able to find it or catch it. Usually either my geckos are hungry and will take one right as I put it down, or they aren't hungry and won't eat it at all and I find it a week later. So I don't leave dubia roaches in the tanks anymore, they either eat them, or I take them out.

Thanks doublet74 and Mardy.

If I dust the Dubia with Cal and put them in the dish do you think when I should take it out if they're not finish it?
- The next day?
- Or just leave it until they finish it?

Do I have to take out the mealworms dish when the time I put in the Dubia?
Coz I put a mealworms dish inside their cage 24/7...

Thanks

With most of my leos, I just use my hand like tongs and make them chase it around a little bit. Some will eat it just after dusting (apparently they are hungrier than the rest), and some I have to let the roach wander around before they will attack it.

If you pull their hind legs and one middle, they can't escape lol. If I leave one in the mealworm dish I usually just leave it in there for a couple of days. If they don't eat it, then I'll take it out and put it back in the bin so the roach can feed again.

I hand pull some dubia out of the colony and i just drop them in one by one as the geckos eat them. i keep my geckos in groups so once one grabs the dubia i drop the next one. whatever is left i just dump in and i let some run around and the geckos eat them as they find them wondering around the tank. :main_thumbsup:

I sometimes flip them on their back in front of a perspective leo I want to feed, and usually with all the trying to flip over, it gets gobbled up. I also will use a long pair of tongs to drag it in front of a hide and watch a gecko come out like the shark in jaws. (crunch) After that I'll let a few run around.

In my large vivs what they don't get, a few days later I can mist the top of the trees and the roaches swarm there to drink and I snatch them up and toss them back in with the others to live another day until they are selected out to be feeders again.

For Echo, I hand feed them, she has to inspect them first, then chomps. Clementine has a more voracious appetite so I use a dish. I use tall condiment dishes from the dollar store, they're about an inch and a half high. Every feeding time, Clementine sees me messing with the roach bin and waits with her front feet in the food dish. Then when I put the food in, she hops down to the floor of the cage and looks/listens for the bugs. It takes her a minute to find them. I haven't figured out if she's really that dumb, or just weird.

I feed much like some others in here. I'll dump 2 per lizard in each tank. (I have 30+ tanks right now) by the time I make it back to tank 1 I see if any are left and if my lizards still seem intrested. If so I start over with 1 per interested lizard. If a lizard refuses to eat I note it and see how they react the next day to feeding. I keep a weight chart and watch it like an eagle. Everyone will do it there own way.
