i have been trying to train my geckos to eat mealworms out of a feeder. the only way they will eat them is if i put them on the ground where they move freely around. they dont want anything to do with the feeder.
yea, those little feeding dish rock things. i keep mealworms with gutload and carrot slices, along with calcium. i actually have two calcium dishes around the big tank.
My male only just started eating out of his dish this week. Don't ask why he changed his mind after 10 months of insisting I serve him. He knows if I shake the dish I'm putting in fresh mealies.
Only put 10 mealies in the dish & check daily to see if they are getting eaten. Then you'll know for sure.
We tried usiong those for the longest time and when all of our geckos starting losing weight...we decided to lose the battle on trying to make them and gave them regular dishes. They were certainly hungry and pleased when we finally "gave in". In our "show off" tank at the house that Mikey contructed we just used regular ramekins that were a sand color. Also we do not put pieces of carrotts or anything else in the mealworm dishes. All gutload is done before putting the mealies in the tank. All that is in the mealworm dish is mealworms...of course and a little calcium because some don't seem to get thier calcium any other way.
The green ones of these look great in tanks http://www.petco.com/product/7176/Kritterz-Ceramic-Dishes.aspx
We have also used these as well http://www.petco.com/product/102882/Zilla-Terrarium-Dish.aspx
BUt for everyone in this thread, heres a secret. You can get those dishes from that small size, to big enough to keep superworms from escaping easily, to hamster sized dishes, in the hamster/mammal section, and they go on sale often, and even when not on sale they are cheaper.
