How do you know the mealies are eating?

I have the mealies in a dish with the pro gecko gutload and carrot slices right now. Most of them look like they are trying to dig. Is that them eating or are they actually trying to dig out of the bottom cause theyre dumb?

It's a little bit of both. LOL They're dumb as rocks, but they also eat as they dig.

They are not that dumb... I mean they are, but not as dumb as I originally thought. Sometimes when I first get them, I put them all on a paper plate to gutload with the edges folded up so that they can't get out. I left them without adult supervision, look back at my table and see about 15 falling onto my floor, hanging off the edge of the plate and falling onto the table. I go over there and they had literally made stairs. There were about 20 of them huddled together on one side with like 6 climbing up them. I was amazed.

And don't worry... they are eating. It is much easier to tell when they eat their water source. They seem to curl up around it, but they are eating the dry stuff too.

Yea, I'm able to tell when they are drinking (from the curling)

I didn't know they ate while they dug. Good to know

When you buy skinny ones and week or 2 later and they are nice and plump that's another good way to tell.

I have giants so they are all fat lol

When these are gone I'm going to switch to regular ones since I found out about the hormones they give giants. Even if its not true, I dont want to risk it

Does anyone have a picture of a fat mealie as opposed to a skinny one? Just curious to see the difference.
