How long before second egg is laid?

Back in December, my gecko laid two infertile eggs. The second egg came two days after the first.

This past Wednesday, she laid an egg, and I can see she is gravid, but, has not laid the second egg. How much time is normal for both eggs to be laid?

Even though there is a lay box in the tank, she has laid all her eggs on the tank floor.

She is eating fine, but, is a little less active then usual....mainly staying in her warm hide.

I believe that it is more usual for a gecko to lay both eggs at pretty much the same time, but i believe that it can vary... can i ask you how big she is (weight wise), and her morph (just curious :) ) and welcome to the forum! hopefully some more experiencced breeders can chime in and be more helpful!

Even though there is a lay box in the tank, she has laid all her eggs on the tank floor.

She might be "resisting" the egglaying?? I'm an amateur but it is a viable theory that she isn't satisfied with the lay-box so she just tries to hold the egg in....and of course it eventually has to come out.

I'm curious.. How big is her lay-box, what is the substrate in the lay-box, and where is the lay-box located?

Thank you for your replies! I am glad to have found this forum.

My gecko weighs 41g. I am not sure what morph, so I uploaded a couple of pictures into an album on my profile. Maybe you could tell me?! LOL.

Her lay box is 4 x 6 and is 1.75 high. I use vermucilite as the medium. I have not seen her even enter the box. She does not use her moist hide either....which has moss in it. Its the same type of box size wise.

I hope she lets go of that egg soon. Im getting a little worried.

I've had it happen twice, when was a couple of days between the eggs. Both times they were infertile. I use a medium size ziplock foods storage container with a hole cut in the top. it is about 8x4x3. I use cocofiber in my lay boxes. They seem to like it.

did you intentionally breed her? beacause maybe (big maybe) she is having difficulties laying that other egg because she is a little on the small side. most breeders like to wait until the female is 55+ grams brfore breeding, just to make sure that they are big enough to handle breeding. but if she doesnt drop that egg in the near future, and begins to look sickly, or like she is strining to lay the egg, or in pain, a vet trip will probably be in order. :)

No, I didnt intentionally breed her. When we purchased them (we have two), we were told they were both females!!! Never thought to check when they got older, because we were told thats what we were getting. Once we realized we had one of each (witnessing the "act"), it was to late. They are now in separate tanks.

She ate normally tonight, and I set up a different lay box, in case she didnt like the previous one. This one is higher and I changed the medium in it. Hoping there will be an egg in the morning.

It sucks she got knocked up so young. :( But yeah, change up the small details until you find something she likes:

-Use a larger lay-box so she has room to move or atleast layout straight from nose to tail.
-Move it a little closer to the warm side (I think they know their eggs need warmth)
-Some geckos like to dig and lay in the hole of the substrate...(cant remember what you are using, but make sure she can dig it..lol)

Well, I decided to take my gecko to the vet today, since there still was no egg. The vet said she looked extremely healthy but they would do an xray to see what was going on with the egg. I was told the egg is in the right spot, but, its just not ready yet! I am relieved there arent any issues, so I can stop stressing. My little gecko didnt know what was going on, poor thing!

thats good news! so she was just tricking you by laying a one egg clutch then! ;) shame on her for worrying you so much! :D

on a serious note, its great that you actually care for her enough to take her to the vet. i know many people who would not take their gecko to the vet even if it was seriously ill because it is "just" a gecko. so good on you!

Oh, thank you! I have become quite attached to her. The people in the waiting room were joking that the gecko would not be saving me 15% that day (like the commercial). LOL

Oh that is great that you took her to the vet and that everything is ok with her. I was worried as I read through your thread as 41g is not a good weight for a leo to get gravid at all as there is greater risk of egg binding (dystocia). Really glad she is doing ok and keep us posted how it goes with that egg!

Finally!! She layed the egg. She went an entire week without eating, and then, last night she ate five mealworms, and two crickets. I looked inside her warm hide..........and there was the egg. She must have layed it earlier in the day, as, it had started to harden. It was collapsed though, so, I'm guessing she laid on it, and it gove moved around a bit. I am so relieved!
