I don't use mealies, but I use well over 2,000 crickets a week for 53 Leos, an avg. of 8-9 a day per little beastie. It's a lot of work taking care of the whole group, but I love it.
We are currently feeding only crickets, but have started breeding superworms and have several tubs full of small supers. Right now we are going through about 12k crickets a week, we have a bunch of geckos! I am just glad we won't have any more eggs for a few months.
a week right now is about 2,000- 3,000 mealworms. During baby season it can be 4,000-5,000. I have a few more leos this year so it might be a bit more, but nothing compared to others LOL
I feed worms, crix and roaches...whichever tub i grab lol..Ive been using crix as a staple recently to try somthing new and like it so far. I go through about 1000 a week...granted the occassional roach otr worms in there too lol...
You guys above..
10k-30k!!!!
3k-5k wow you guys (and MOGL"S) are freakin nutz lol!
would be nice to have 300 plus geckos but man i dont think budget or time would allow me lol. My hats tipped off for everyone that cares for a large colony!
Right now, since it's winter, very few mealies are going into
gecko bellies
I have gotten to where I can tell by how they are acting if
they are interested in food or not, I dont even have to put the
dish of worms in there anymore to know.
Slinky is kind of the od one though. He will act like he is starving,
but then only eat one mealie!
Indie's body language is very clear when he is hungry.
I have 6 leopard geckos. Due to picky eaters I have 3 that only eat mealworms and one that is too small for my regular feeder (superworms) so I put 20-40 a day. I prefer superworms. I use about 10 of those a day...they are more filling than mealies.
I don't keep track of exact numbers. I refill when low with the staples of mealies, supers, and crickets. Then, as less frequent items, I give pinkies and waxies. Especially to certain females and undereaters.
I would say around 2000 per feeding, but up to 5000 or more during baby time. Mealworms are the staple for my colony but roaches and crickets are also used.
