I am thinking of getting 1000 mealies i want to breed and feed them. My question is for all you breeders do you get an acess of worms like you breed to many? Or do you just get around the same or even less? Thank you for all the help.

Most breeders I know (especially the medium-large scale ones) do not even attempt to breed the THOUSANDS of meal worms they would go through weekly. It would pretty much be a full time job!

I guess if you're going to give it a shot I would designate a portion out of the thousand you get ONLY for breeding, and the rest for feeding.

It all comes down to how many geckos you have. If that number is reasonably low, you can probably feed them off a well established colony, or at least close to it.

I have too many mealies and I don't know what to do with them. I am thinking about selling some to a pet shop.

How involved is it to breed meal worms?
Is it worth considering if I only have 1 gecko?

For one gecko I wouldn't do it. I used to get 75 at a time for my one gecko, and those lasted forever it seemed! I'm just now starting to breed supers because I have 13, and will be breeding this season.

Really? Mine eats around 10mealies a night so that would just last me around a week, lol.. She's a little cow! And looks up for more. .

Holy cow Liz lol. Those 75 used to last me almost 3 weeks. My girl was 4 when I got her, and definitely didn't need to be fed every night, that's for sure. I guess it depends on the age of your gecko as well. I'm talking about my LadyBug...or should I say Godzilla? lol

Lol. I just started to feed her every other day because it's to expensive to feed her massive appetite. That's why I want to get some roaches so I can have a self sustaining feeding colony because she's too much. When I first got her she was a little thin and within the first month she put on a lot of weight (i think) she's finally filling in but now she seems to have stopped gaining and appears to be keeping a constant weight.

This thing is soo spoiled that at night she comes out anywhere from 6-8pm and sits next to the area where the bowl is suppose to be and just waits. When she sees me pass by she perks up as if it was christmas!! lol She'll sit in that spot for HOURS waiting for me to put in some food. I think she might be addicted to food! During sheds she goes off food for like 3days. People don't believe me when I tell her about how much she eats because she doesn't look fat or overweight just a good size. Mind you she'll be 2 in May.

Lol just be careful Liz! I have one (Clark, the sick little one from the chain store) that now is just like that. No matter how many worms I throw in that bowl she will down them within minutes. She's beginning to get a little too chubby for my liking lol. A far cry from where she was when I got her!

Lol.. I don't know what it is but she seems to stop at 10 or 12.. but i've just kept it at 10 at every feeding everyother day now. She's so greedy I've seen stuff two large mealies in her mouth at the SAME time. The good thing I like is that it seems she might eat anything I give her so it's easier on me since my last gecko using to be picky as can be!!! I dunno what it is with these geckos now a days.. I guess we spoil them sooo much, lol

They breed and morph faster when temps are above 75 but under 83.

I've got about...30 pupae, and 4-5 beetles. And I've only been doing it for a week or two.
