So i got my bins and rolled oats, now im ready for my mealworms, just one question. How many mealworms should i buy total? Im breeding them for 1 leopard gecko (my petstore is expensive), and i want to know how many to buy. (i also need mealworms to feed him for the time before they breed so add that too.)

you can also buy them in some pet stores at 500. they are about $7 so if you get 1000 it would be about $14. buying them online would probably be better, but it takes a few days.

You might also want to check out Ebay :)

While im still waiting for my colony to get established i have been buying from a guy on there and they are awesome :) Great value for money and they are really fresh and healthy :main_thumbsup:

Just check the sellers feedback b4 u buy anything to see how others have rated them. You can prolly get a bargain ;)

Hi ez2animate,

I think 1000 is a good amount to start with. You may also consider buying beetles to jump start your mealworm farm. You can get them online or ask at your local pet store if they would give you a few.
If you are starting out from worms, be prepared to wait for ~2.5 months before you have mealworms ready for feeding.
Also I have to say it is not as easy as it may sound to keep a farm going and it takes some dedication and work to maintain it. I am not really sure if it is worth the trouble for one leo, unless you would like to give it a try and enjoy this little side project.

Kindest regards
Dennis
