Hey everyone!

Ive just introduced meal worms to my gecko and im wondering how many he should be having? Yesterday he ate 7 and looked abit on the chubby side, i dont want to over feed him at all. Before meal worms he was on crickets.

Also this has prob been asked before but i heard a rumor the meal worms might bite the inside of a gecko. Is this true or just a horror story?

Many thanks!

Most of the time Leo won't over it but there are a few that as long as there's food they'll eat no stop. You might want to post a picture so we can see if he's healthy or over weight. You should also know that many people feed their juvies everyday, while they feed their adults a few times a week and others just leave mealworms in the enclosure at all times for when ever the leo wants to eat. In my opinion it's really up to you and your gecko and what you feel comfortable with as a feeding schedule.

When I used to feed mealworms as a staple I used to feed 10-12 medium sized mealworms a night for like 3 months but then I switched it to every other day and she's perfectly fine. Lately I've been feeding roaches and supers, though.

Any feeder eating through a leo from the inside is a Myth/Horror Story. No need to worry. I believe this story originated because someone left so worms loose in the enclosure and didn't notice that they're leo, etc. was dead and when they checked on the animal the feeder was chewing on the belly and the owner believed OMG THAT WORM ATE THROUGH MY LIZARD!
