I thought I would check with the experts...surprised that I never thought to ask this before, but how many mealies is a bowlful? 10? 20? 30? Is there a magic number that entices the leos to eat them better?

I've tried 10 or 20...should I do more?

Thanks in advance!

I usually put in a good handfull (what will fit in a 6oz bowl 1/4" from being full), probably 100 or more and fill it up as needed during the week then use a new clean dish each Sunday.

thats about right, how many geckos are you feeding?

I have three leos total, in separate tanks. I was wondering if the bowl is fuller if the leos will eat better, ie see the mealworms better? but yet it can't be so full that they can crawl out...

I don't have 100 mealworms currently...do you keep track of how many are eaten? Do any crawl out? Do you leave any gutload in with them or calcium dust?

Sorry for so many questions!

Kathy, I took about an averae of what mine eats in a day and trippled it. I figured this way, she would have plenty, and its enough that there are always some moving around. I really don't think it matters at all, as long as she gets enough. I don't think there is a "right" answer for that question. Just put in enough that they wont be gone in 1 day, and as you said, not so much that they can get out.

I used to count how many they ate, I was anal etensive about it and I finally stopped, on average an adult leo can eat from 75-200+ a week, just depends on the leo. I have some leos that can eat 100 a week and stay at their weight and others eat 200 or so.

I have 20 leos and 5000 mealies last about 4 weeks so they eat about 62.5 a week but they also get supers once a week (about 5 each) and crix when I have them left over from the chameleons.

I use dishes that are really slick so I don't have a crawl out problem, they are also 6oz so I fill them to about 1/4" below the top.

I put in vionate ont he bottom abotu a teaspoon, then a couple of slices of carrot, apple or oranges, then the mealies, them on day 1 I use osteo form on top, then on day 3 when I fill them again, I add mineral O to the top then on day 5 I fill them again and use Reptivite on top. Ill add more vionate if it looks like its running out and I usually have to add more carrots once a week.

Thanks for all the input, everyone...I appreciate your replies. I guess I may up the numbers to at least 20, maybe 30. Right now I need to keep track of how many each leo is eating. When everyone is settled in then I can back off and not worry so much. VBG

Thanks!

Kathy
