during the day i usually feed her a couple mealworms tell she gos back into her hide and when the light go's out i put crickets in the tank cus when i put them in during the day she doesnt go after them anyway only at night when she gets into her hunting mood but i was just wonder howmuch i should feed her every other day. she has a really fat tail and is only 7-8 months old(thats what i was told ) i weighed her the other day and she was around 80 grams. im not sure if that a perfect weight for her or if she should gain a little more , i am planning on getting a male once she is mature enough to breed

That is really heavy for a weight and she has a very fat tail. This is a gecko that is not starving for sure and is on the side of fat. ;) Sounds like you are feeding her a nice variety, crickets and mealworms, nothing wrong with leaving mealworms in a dish overnight.

She is at breeding weight, I'd wait until she is at least a year old, too bad you don't know exact age. Sometimes I wait two years just to be sure there is no issue with breeding early, even if weight is fine (40-45g).

Don't bother complaining, these come in with the crickets. They are harmless to geckos and some like to eat them.

BTW, don't waste your money by buying small quantities of food at pet shops. Ask folks here what a good supplier is for your food. You should get a place that is as close to you, yet reputable, as possible.

thanks GECKO RANCH for your advice on buying larger quantities, i will start doin that once my bro gets his bearded dragon and i get a bigger tank to store the large amount crickets. is feeding both crickets and mealworms better then just one of those cus alot of people say that mealworms are not to good to use, but alot of people also disagree about that. and you said (This is a gecko that is not starving for sure and is on the side of fat) should i maybe cut down a lil bit, i mean its good that she isnt under wieght but i also dont want her OVER wieght i want her to be healthy and live as long as possible

and thanks every one for your thoughts

Hey Bronko,

You are very welcome! It is always a pleasure to share my passion for geckos! :D

Variety is great for geckos in feeding, crickets are definitely lower fat than mealworms. Mealworms are fine to use, indeed, lots of folks, especially pet shops, are confused about how good or even how safe they are for your geckos. Pet shops are pretty much the only ones perpetuating the myth of having to chop off mealworm heads so they don't eat out of your gecko's stomach! :main_rolleyes:

Beardies do not do well by freely feeding on mealworms though. You'll find, if you let them eat as many as they want, a pile of partially digested mealworms as a poop! :main_laugh: It is like they are a little kid and you are giving them candy....:rolleyes4: Give beardies just a few mealworms at a time and mainly feed crickets and greens.
