How much time??

So I finally had one little guy hatch on Monday the 19th. He is doing awesome so far and seems strong. The other egg has yet to hatch though. I was wondering how much time could pass between the two cluthmates hatching dates. I assumed it would be only a day or so. The egg is extremely dented on the underside and their is a little bit of mold growing on it but, it still glows red, doesn't stink and I can see the baby inside. I am so tempted to cut it open but I don't want to in case it just needs to cook a little bit longer. Any advice would be helpful!!

I would cut it, but that's me! We had a clutchmate take longer than expected and it was sweating for 12 hours, and then it jsut stopped sweating..so we felt we had to cut it.

Since the clutchmate already hatched, that one should be okay to cut open, at least to assist the little guy and make sure he's alive. That's just what I would do, I don't really know you or if you should do it, only you can decide that!

Mold and denting on the bottom isn't very good though. If the egg wasn't molding/denting, I wouldn't say to cut it.. It's just when they start showing bad signs after they are due, it's really a big question of "Will cutting him open save his life?" because sometimes if you let it go too long, it becomes too late.. it's a very tough situation, make the best judgement call on it that you possibly can.

Good luck!!

The longest time I've had between clutchmates has been 3 days, but I have heard that they can take up to a week at times.

in my thoughts
I think if you cut the egg and do it carefully without cutting any vessels then he might be fine. I actually had to do that because on of my eggs clutch mate hatched and left it turned all the way over and i didn't know for how long so I just cut it open and took it out and it was like in a gel membrane and I just left it like that in a moist container till it felt like waking up, about a 12 hours.

1 of my eggs was dented on the bottom and had just a little mold growing out of the side of it. But a baby still hatched out.

I've had a moldy and dented egg before too, and the baby didn't hatch out, but died 4 days before it was due :( Just as life is varied, so are everyone's experiences.

My point of view on it is if the hatchling isn't strong enough to make it out of the egg it generally isn't strong enough to survive. Trust me I`ve cut my share of eggs when I shouldn't had. Just see if it hatches on its own.

I think the general rule is to never cut any eggs, but I also think there are circumstances when it might be a good idea.. I don't know, it's a tough call to make at any time

I hope everything turns out okay, keep us updated on the egg!

Grrr! No offense, I appreciate the advice but this doesn't help me at all! Some people are saying cut it open, it's probably dead, others are saying leave it alone, you never know! The egg has gotten moldier over the past few days. I had planned to cut it Saturday if it didn't hatch, but I keep saying, just one more day...
The clutchmate had its first shed today, and is still doing great. His fresh coat looks beautiful! I am going to start it on mealworms tomorrow. Well, thanks to everyone who has responded so far!

If you're going to wait, make sure you keep the mold wiped away as much as possible, and sprinkle some type of anti-fungal powder on it (athlete's foot or baking soda) to help with the mold..

So sorry, there are many questions that have divided answers, and this is one of them! The best you can do is go with what YOU feel.. Good luck!
